Gurugram: Residents of Spaze Privy The Address Society in Sector 93 have demanded individual electricity connections for every flat from the power corporation. The society has been facing frequent power issues due to the absence of a 33 kV substation. In builder-licensed societies, the single-point electricity connection is held by the builder.
Individual connections are generally not provided, but several societies across the city, including Spaze Privy, are struggling with power shortages because of low-capacity single-point connections. Societies are required to establish 33 kV substations to ensure electricity supply according to their load and requirements. However, many societies are currently operating with temporary 11 kV connections.
Cables supplying electricity from distant locations frequently develop faults and technical problems, often leaving residents without adequate power for several days. Spaze Privy Society also has a temporary 11 kV cable connection.
Vikas Singh Maini, general secretary of the society’s RWA, said the file for a 33 kV substation has been pending with Smart Grid for around one and a half years. Residents facing repeated power problems have now demanded direct electricity connections from the power corporation.
Under the single-point connection system, consumers often have to pay the maximum applicable electricity rate for their consumption. Residents have demanded that under a unified billing system, the builder should provide detailed consumption data for every consumer to the power corporation, with consumers being charged according to the actual amount of electricity they use. The residents have also sought clarification from the power corporation on the matter, but no response has been received from officials so far.
List of 33 Societies Sent to Officials
Navdeep Singh, RWA president of ATS Triumph Society in Sector 104, said that his society, along with several others, does not have a 33 kV substation. Residents are facing power problems due to temporary electricity connections. He said a list of around 33 such societies has been submitted to officials.
