Gurugram: Shopkeepers at Sector 10 Market are struggling due to a lack of basic civic amenities. Poor road conditions, inadequate parking, and widespread encroachment have emerged as major concerns. During an interaction with this correspondent, traders said the market’s condition has worsened since its administration shifted from the Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA) to the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG).
The market serves nearly 3,000 families living in Sector 10, along with residents of Kadipur village, Saraswati Enclave, Pataudi Road, and nearby housing societies in Sector 37. It houses a wide range of essential businesses, including grocery stores, banks, pharmacies, dairy outlets, clothing shops, salons, and other retail establishments.
Despite attracting thousands of visitors every day, the market continues to face problems such as damaged footpaths, poor security, and severe waterlogging during the monsoon. Former Sector 10 RWA President Dharamvir Dalal has written to the Municipal Commissioner, urging the authorities to beautify the market to improve its appeal and attract more shoppers.
The presence of two major private schools near the market also results in significant daily movement of students and parents. Shopkeepers believe that better infrastructure would not only improve convenience but also increase customer footfall.
As the market is situated below the level of the main Sector 10 road, nearly two feet of water accumulates during heavy rains. Traders have demanded that the footpaths be raised, CCTV cameras be installed to improve security, and the vacant land within the shopping complex be cleared of encroachments and construction debris.
