Gurugram Metro Project Reaches Major Milestone with Installation of First Pier Cap
The long-awaited Gurugram Metro project achieved a significant construction milestone on Wednesday with the successful installation of its first pier cap, marking steady progress in the development of the city’s elevated metro corridor.
The first pier cap was installed on a 7.864-metre-high pier using a 350-tonne tyre-mounted crane. Measuring nearly 10 metres in length, 3 metres in width, and 2 metres in height, the structure was fabricated at the project’s casting yard near Naharpur village in Sector 33 before being transported to the installation site.
The installation marks the beginning of a crucial phase in the construction of the elevated metro viaduct. Pier caps connect the supporting piers to the viaduct structure and serve as the base for placing U-girders, which will eventually support the metro tracks and other structural components.
With the first pier cap now in place, work will continue on installing additional pier caps and launching U-girders, accelerating the construction of the elevated viaduct.
Project officials stated that construction is progressing according to schedule, with safety and quality remaining top priorities. Metro expansion work beyond Millennium City Centre Metro Station toward Old Gurugram has already commenced and will be carried out in two phases, with the first phase currently underway.
The Gurugram Metro project is expected to strengthen public transport connectivity across the city, reduce traffic congestion, and provide commuters with a modern, efficient, and sustainable mode of transportation once completed.
