Gurugram Civic Body Launches Major Drive Against Illegal Constructions Following Supreme Court Order
The Municipal Corporation Gurugram (MCG) is preparing to launch its largest-ever enforcement drive against illegal constructions. In compliance with Supreme Court directives, a special demolition campaign will be conducted across all municipal zones during August, with authorities targeting the removal of more than 100 unauthorized structures.
Officials said the action will be carried out without discrimination, and all illegal constructions will face legal action in accordance with applicable regulations.
To ensure the campaign is implemented effectively, the civic body is forming a special task force in each zone. Area-wise responsibilities will be assigned to designated officials, who will oversee daily enforcement activities. Joint Commissioners from each zone will submit detailed daily reports to the MCG headquarters for continuous monitoring and review.
Property Owners Urged to Remove Illegal Constructions Voluntarily
The municipal corporation has issued a final appeal to property owners and developers, urging them to voluntarily remove unauthorized constructions before enforcement action begins. If they fail to do so, the corporation will proceed with demolition in accordance with the law, and the cost of the operation may be recovered from the responsible parties.
Zero-Tolerance Policy on Illegal Constructions
Municipal Commissioner Pradeep Dahiya said illegal constructions negatively impact the city’s master plan, traffic management, drainage systems, public infrastructure, environmental sustainability, and public safety. He added that such developments often lead to administrative and legal disputes, prompting the corporation to adopt a zero-tolerance policy against unauthorized construction.
Officials Also to Be Held Accountable
The Commissioner directed all officials to conduct the campaign with complete transparency, fairness, and in accordance with the law. He warned that any officer or employee found protecting illegal constructions or showing negligence in enforcement would also be held accountable.
Citizens Advised to Follow Approved Building Plans
Residents have been advised to obtain all necessary approvals from the Municipal Corporation before starting any construction and to ensure that all work is carried out strictly according to sanctioned building plans.
The Commissioner stated that the August enforcement drive marks only the beginning of a sustained campaign against illegal constructions. Similar operations will continue in the future as part of efforts to develop Gurugram into a well-planned, safe, and organized city.
