Strict Action Against Encroachment in the Car Market

NOIDA — In a major crackdown against public space violations, the Noida Authority, in collaboration with the local police department, executed a massive anti-encroachment drive at the bustling Sector-16 Car Market on Friday.

The enforcement joint team dismantled approximately 60 illegally constructed makeshift sheds and seized 15 vehicles found parked unlawfully on public roads.

Clearing Commercial Bottlenecks

The Sector-16 Car Market has long faced scrutiny over traffic congestion. According to senior officials, mechanics and second-hand automobile dealers had set up illegal tin and iron sheds on footpaths and right-of-ways. These structures were being used as extended, unauthorized open-air workshops to repair and service vehicles.

The expansion of these private businesses onto public property had severely reduced road width, causing daily gridlocks, stalling local transit routes, and creating significant safety hazards for pedestrians and daily commuters heading toward the nearby Sector-16 Metro Station.

Strict Enforcement and Penalties

During the multi-hour operation, the Authority deployed heavy machinery to clear out the structures completely.

“The commercial misuse of public roads and pedestrian pathways will not be tolerated,” stated an official from the Noida Authority. “These illegal mechanics’ sheds were directly impeding traffic flow. We have cleared 60 such structures from various points across the market area.”

The 15 vehicles seized from the roadside were towed to the Noida Authority’s designated storage yards. Officials confirmed that these vehicles will only be released after the owners pay heavy fines alongside towing and storage penalties, serving as a warning against treating public roads as private shop floors.

The Authority has deployed a surveillance team to monitor the area over the coming weeks to ensure that the cleared pavements are not re-occupied by local vendors and mechanics.
